This section is designed to prepare your vehicle for technical inspection in accordance with current requirements. Obviously, you won't be able to check your car to the same extent as a professional. However, performing the checks described below will enable you to detect faults even before presenting the vehicle for inspection.

In cases where the condition of the inspected object is on the edge of acceptable, the decision to undergo inspection remains at the discretion of the inspector. This decision will be determined by the inspector's willingness to offer, say, a close relative or friend the use of your car if it is in the stated condition. If a car is clean and appears to have been well-maintained, the inspector will be more likely to consider the car to have passed inspection than if the car appears unkempt and clearly neglected.

In this Guide we have only been able to summarize the inspection requirements that were in effect at the time the book was prepared for publication. Inspection requirements are becoming increasingly stringent, although some relaxations are made for older vehicles.

To perform some of these tests, you will need an assistant.

The checks were divided into four categories as follows:

1 - Checks performed from the driver's seat;

2 - Checks performed on a car parked on the ground;

3 - Checks performed on a raised vehicle with freely rotating wheels;

4 - Check exhaust gas composition.
