In the automotive industry, the process of modernization is continuous; it is not reflected in publications and occurs completely independently of the main changes in models. Since spare parts catalogs and lists are compiled using part numbers, proper identification numbers are absolutely essential for the correct selection of the required parts.

When ordering spare parts, always provide as much information as possible. Please provide the vehicle model, year of manufacture, body and engine identification numbers.

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

This all-important identification number is stamped on the firewall in the engine compartment, and on models produced since 1997, the VIN plate is attached under the windshield on the left side. The VIN number is also stamped on the body under the right front seat. The manufacturer's certification sticker is located on the door pillar at the bottom on the driver's side (see figure 1,2,3).

Figure 2. On models produced since 1997, the vehicle identification number (VIN) plate can be seen through the windshield on the left side.

Model year VIN codes

One of the important pieces of information that the VIN code provides us with is the model year code, the 10th letter (number) of the number, counting from the left. All models covered in this manual have one of the following model year codes:

T199612001
V199722002
W199832003
X199942004
Y200052005
62006

Engine number

The engine code number on models produced before 2000 is stamped on a plate attached to the engine on the right side; in models produced since 2001, it can be found on the front (from the radiator side) engine cylinder block parts (see figures 4 and 5).
