Warning! Cars are equipped with safety systems (SRS), including airbags and seat belt tensioners. Before working near the impact sensors, instrument panel, and steering column, disconnect the negative and then positive terminals from the battery and wait 2 minutes. This will prevent unauthorized deployment of the airbags and seat belt pretensioners, which could cause injury.


To remove the instrument cluster visor, proceed as follows:

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

If the vehicle is equipped with an adjustable steering column, tilt it down as far as it will go.

On pre-2001 models, remove the screw at the top of the instrument cluster visor (figure 14.49). Using both hands, pull the instrument cluster visor toward you to separate it from the instrument panel.

On 2001 and later models, use both hands to pull the instrument cluster cover toward you to separate it from the instrument panel.

Install the instrument cluster visor in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the visor, check that the instrument cluster visor clips are positioned correctly.
