Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Location

Since mid-1981, all Toyota models exported to Europe and the USA had a 17-digit identification number.

Toyota J6 / Land Cruiser station wagon
VIN location: on the frame, front, right, behind the front axle.
Location of engine number: on the engine cylinder block, at the rear, on the left.
12 H — (= serial number of the car).
Location of the standard/factory (factory) plate: in the engine compartment, on the front of the body, on the left.
Attention! Among the Land Cruiser type cars there are cars made in Portugal. Their identification number starts with TWO.

Decoding the identification number:
- 1. World manufacturer number for Toyota.
- 2. Body shape (here: V = passenger car, combi, 2-door with double-leaf rear door).
- 3. Empty space.
- 4. Engine series (R = engine type 22R, petrol; L = engine type 2L-T, diesel).
- 5. Model series (J = Land Cruiser).
- 6. Model series with engine type (70 = vehicle base 2310 mm with engine type 22R or 2 LT; 73 = the vehicle's wheelbase is 2600 mm with a 2L-T engine type.
- 7. Serial number.
Engine number location:
- 22 R-motor: on the crankcase, in front, on the left, at the bottom (petrol.);
- 2 LT engine: on the crankcase, in front, on the left, above the fuel injection pump (diesel).
Location of the standard/factory (factory) plate: in the engine compartment, on the front of the body, on the left.
Please note! It is also possible that the initial letters of the identification number may be TWO.
