Vehicle identification number location (VIN)
From the middle of 1981, all Toyota models that were exported to Europe and the USA had a 17-digit identification number.

VIN location: on the frame, front, right, behind the front axle.
Engine number location: on the engine block, rear, left.
12 H — (= serial number of the vehicle).
Location of type/factory (factory) plates: in the engine compartment, on the front of the body, on the left.
Attention! Among Land Cruiser cars there are cars produced in Portugal. Their identification number starts with TWO.

Deciphering the identification number:
- 1. World manufacturer number for Toyota.
- 2. Body shape (here: V = passenger car, combi, 2-door with double tailgate).
- 3. Empty space.
- 4. Motor series (R = engine type 22R, gasoline; L = engine type 2L-T, diesel).
- 5. Model series (J = Land Cruiser).
- 6. Model series with motor type (70 = vehicle base 2310 mm with engine type 22R or 2 LT; 73 = vehicle base is 2600 mm with motor type 2L-T.
- 7. Serial number.
Engine number location:
- 22 R-motor: on crankcase, front, left, bottom (petrol.);
- 2 LT engine: on crankcase, front, left, above injection pump (diesel).
Location of type/factory (factory) plates: in the engine compartment, on the front of the body, on the left.
Attention! It is also possible that the initial letters of the identification number may be TWO.
