Daytime running light system (DRL), used on Canadian models, to make sure the headlights turn on when the engine is running. The only exception is when the parking brake is applied while the engine is running. The lighting comes on immediately after the parking brake is released and remains on as long as the ignition is on, even if the parking brake is subsequently applied.
The DRL system provides limited power to the headlights so that they do not burn too brightly during daytime use in order to prolong lamp life.
