1. Most power rear view mirrors use two motors to move the glass, one for moving up and down and one for moving left and right.
2. There is a selector on the control switch that sends voltage to the left or right side of the mirror. With the ignition on but the engine off, open the window and use the mirror control switch to activate all mirror adjustment functions on the right and left side (full swing left and right and up and down).
3. Listen carefully to the sound of the mirror motors.
4. If the sound of the motors is heard, but the mirror glass does not move, there is a problem in the transmission of movement inside the mirror. To solve the problem, remove and disassemble the mirror.
5. If the mirrors do not work and do not make a sound, check the fuse.
6. If the fuse is OK, remove the mirror control switch from the front panel. Check the operation of the switch, for which you should contact the technical service department of the dealership or another service station.
7. Check electrical ground circuits. Talk to electrical diagrams at the end of this chapter.
8. If the mirror drive still does not work, remove the mirror and check the wires in the mirror for voltage.
9. If there is no voltage at each switch position, check the electrical circuit between the mirror and the control switch for open or short circuits.
10. If there is voltage, remove the mirror and check it outside the car using the connecting wires. Replace the mirror if the test is negative.
