Before moving, determine the nature of the terrain. Hold the steering wheel with your thumbs outward. When driving through mud or loose soil/sand, reduce tire pressure and drive in lower gears. Use the differential lock only if necessary, when one of the wheels slips. As far as possible, overcome obstacles in front, with the exception of ditches, which must be overcome diagonally. Water obstacles can be overcome if the fording depth does not exceed 0.5 m, after which, be sure to dry the brakes by braking.
On steep ascents, it is not recommended to depress the clutch pedal, and on descents, turn off the gear and lower the car «under its own power». Brake with the engine in low gears, use braking as little as possible. After overcoming difficult areas, check all security systems and remove all foreign objects from under the car.
