  • unscrew the bolts (figure 3.89) and remove the oil pan. If the oil pan is firmly seated, separate it from the cylinder block by inserting a screwdriver blade between them, being careful not to damage the mating surfaces of the pan and the cylinder block.

Installation

Using a hard plastic or wooden scraper, remove any remaining old sealant from the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block and clean them with solvent.

Check that the threaded holes for the oil pan mounting bolts in the cylinder block are clean and have no damage to the threads.

Check the oil pan flange, especially around the bolt holes, for defects. If necessary, remove any burrs or nicks.

Check the oil pickup tube for proper attachment and for cracks. If the oil pickup tube was removed, clean it and install it with a new O-ring or gasket. Check the oil intake mesh filter for contamination.

Apply a 5mm bead of RTV sealant to the oil pan mating surface.

Note: The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

Place the oil pan on the cylinder block and secure with bolts, tightening them hand tight at this stage. Tighten the bolts sequentially in a circle, in several passes, to a torque of 9 Nm.

Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

Before adding engine oil, wait 1 hour to allow the sealant to harden.

Install a new oil filter and fill the engine with engine oil.
