Removal

Remove the intake manifold on a cold engine in the following order:
  • relieve pressure in the fuel system;
  • turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;
  • remove the air intake pipe and resonator;
  • remove the hood and the ventilation chamber cover located at the base of the windshield;
  • remove the fuel distribution line assembly with injectors;
  • remove the throttle linkage and throttle body from the intake manifold;
  • mark and disconnect the crankcase ventilation valve (PCV), wiring harnesses, and vacuum hoses from the rear of the intake manifold;
  • raise the car on a lift. Remove the lower intake manifold mounting bolts from underneath the vehicle;

  • unscrew the top nuts and mounting bolts from above (figure 3.76) and remove the intake manifold.

Installation

Perform installation in the following order:
  • use a scraper to remove any remaining old gasket and sealant from the mating surfaces of the intake manifold and cylinder head, then clean the surfaces with solvent;
  • install a new gasket into the intake manifold groove. Install the manifold with the gasket onto the cylinder head guide bushings and secure with bolts and nuts. Tighten the bolts and nuts in several passes, starting from the center and then in a spiral, to avoid deforming the intake manifold.

Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

Check the coolant level and top it up if necessary.

Check all throttle body connections and smooth throttle movement.
