Caution: Always lock the passive restraint system when working in the immediate vicinity of its components to prevent the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbags, which could result in serious injury (see chapter 12).
Front bumper
Removal
1. Apply the handbrake, lift the car with a jack and place it on safety supports.
2. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal first, then from the positive terminal and wait two minutes before proceeding. Working from underneath the vehicle, remove the lower engine covers.
3. For models produced before 2000, remove the upper, lower and side screws securing the bumper panel. Pull the panel outward slightly and disconnect the turn signal wiring connectors. Remove the bumper panel from the car (see figure 11.3, a, b).

4. On models produced since 2001, remove the radiator grille (see paragraph 13) and lower headlight trim panels (see figure 11.4, a, b).

Figure 11.4, b....then press the fastening tabs of the lower headlight trim panels and remove them from the vehicle.
Loosen the bumper panel mounting bolts (see Figure 11.4, c-d).

Note: Pry and lift a small (better than forked) use a screwdriver to loosen the heads of the push pins (pistons) of the plastic fasteners in the central part of the bumper panel, but do not try to pull them out - they are installed in spacer bushings. Pull the panel outward slightly and disconnect the turn signal wiring connectors. Remove the bumper panel from the vehicle.

Installation
5. Install the bumper panel in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that the mounting tabs (if provided) from the back side of the bumper panel, insert it into the corresponding fasteners on the body, only then tighten the bolts and screws. If you need to remove the reinforcement beam, simply unscrew the mounting bolts, disconnect the horn connectors (if any) and remove the beam from the vehicle.

6. Working on the rear wheel arch, detach the plastic clips and unscrew the upper bolt securing the rear bumper panel (see Figure 11.6).

7. Open the rear (trunk) door and unscrew the bolts securing the inner edge of the rear bumper panel (see Figure 11.7).

Pull the bumper panel outward and remove it from the vehicle.
Installation
8. Install the rear bumper panel in the reverse order of removal.
