Shifting (rotating) the wheels

1. Wheels should be rotated at set intervals or when the first signs of uneven tire wear appear. Since the car will need to be lifted and the wheels removed, check the brakes at the same time (see paragraph 14).

2. Wheels with radial tires must be rotated according to a special pattern (see figure 12.2, a, b).

Figure 12.2,a. Four-wheel rearrangement diagram.

Figure 12.2,b. Permutation diagram for five wheels (used only when the spare tire is the same type as the main tires).

3. When lifting the car with a jack and changing a wheel, use the information in the section "Changing a wheel" at the beginning of this Guide. If you are checking the brakes, do not apply the parking brake. Place wheel chocks under the two corresponding wheels.

4. It is advisable to lift the entire vehicle. It is most convenient to use a lift for this, but you can also lift the car with a jack from each corner in turn and place it on safety supports. Be extremely careful and cautious when performing this procedure.

5. After rotating the wheels, check the tire pressure and the tightness of the wheel nuts (data are given in Specifications at the beginning of this chapter).

6. Information on wheels and tires can also be found in chapter 10.
