"START" — the starter is turned on.

Before starting the engine, set the automatic transmission lever to the "P" or "N" position, or with a manual transmission, set it to neutral and depress the clutch pedal. Release the key immediately after starting the engine. It will return to the "ON" position. Do not operate the starter continuously for more than 15 seconds.

"ON" — the engine and all current consumers are on.

This is the normal ignition switch position for driving. The key should not be left in the "ON" position when the engine is not running. This would drain the battery and damage the ignition system.

"ASS" - current consumers, such as the radio, are on, but the engine is stopped.

"LOCK" — the steering wheel is locked. The key can only be removed in this position.

To turn the key to the "LOCK" position from the "ON" or "ACC" positions, press the unlock button. If the key gets stuck in the "LOCK" position when starting the engine, first make sure the key is fully inserted, and then gently turn the key until the steering wheel moves back and forth.

While the vehicle is moving, under no circumstances should you press the steering wheel release button, turn the key to the "LOCK" position, or remove the key, as this will lock the steering wheel and make it impossible to control the vehicle. If you need to stop the engine while driving, turn the key only to the "ACC" position. Under no circumstances should you press the release button or remove the key.
