Warning! Gasoline is extremely flammable. When working with fuel system components, the use of open flames, sparking devices, open fire-hazardous lighting devices, and smoking are prohibited. Avoid sparking when handling wires and electrical devices.
Warning! Since gasoline is a carcinogen, avoid contact with your body or your vehicle's paintwork. Otherwise, wash the affected area immediately with soap and water.
Caution! The fuel system is under constant pressure, so be sure to relieve the pressure in the fuel system before disconnecting the lines.
To relieve pressure in the fuel system, proceed as follows:
- remove the cap from the fuel tank filler neck, which will equalize the pressure in the fuel tank with atmospheric pressure;
- to access the fuel pump/level sensor unit, remove the rear seat and fuel filler cap. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump/level sensor unit;
- start the engine and let it run until it stops due to lack of fuel in the fuel distribution line;
- turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
As a result of the actions performed, the pressure in the fuel system has been relieved. Cover any fuel system connection with a clean rag and carefully loosen the union nut slowly.
After working on the fuel system, connect the electrical connector to the fuel pump/level sensor unit and the ground wire to the battery.
