The coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor, i.e. a resistor whose resistance changes depending on temperature. As the temperature decreases, the resistance of the sensor increases and vice versa (see technical data).

Replace the coolant temperature sensor on a cold engine as follows:
  • turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;
  • drain 4 liters of coolant from the cooling system;

  • disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor and unscrew the sensor (figure 7.11).

Handle the sensor with extreme care, as damage to it will result in failure of the fuel injection system.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Before installation, wrap the sensor threads with Teflon tape to prevent corrosion and leakage.
