The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located on the top of the transmission housing (figure 7.21, 7.22). The sensor generates a pulse signal when the sensor shaft rotates. Based on the information from the sensor, the PCM controls the fuel and ignition systems.
To replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), proceed as follows:
- disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS sensor;
- remove the VSS sensor from the gearbox.
Install the sensor in the reverse order of removal. When installing, replace the sensor sealing ring.
