The intake manifold absolute air pressure sensor measures the intake manifold air pressure, which fluctuates depending on engine load and vehicle speed, and converts the information into an output voltage. The output voltage varies from 1.9 to 2.1 V with the throttle valve closed (high vacuum) and from 0.3 to 0.5 V with the throttle valve open (low vacuum). Based on this voltage, the PCM controls fuel delivery and ignition timing. The sensor is attached to a bracket mounted on the engine compartment bulkhead.

To replace the manifold absolute pressure sensor on models since 2001, proceed as follows:
  • turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;
  • disconnect the electrical connector and vacuum hose from the sensor;

  • unscrew the bolt and remove the absolute pressure sensor together with the bracket from the engine compartment bulkhead (figure 7.8).

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
