The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects the piston position in cylinder number one and provides signals for sequential fuel injection into the engine cylinders. The sensor is installed on the cylinder head near the camshaft pulley (figure 7.14, 7.15).
To replace the camshaft position (CMP) sensor on 1998 and later models, proceed as follows:
- turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;
- remove the air filter housing;
- disconnect the electrical connector, remove the screws and remove the sensor.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
