The engine air temperature sensor is a thermistor, i.e. a resistor whose resistance changes depending on temperature. As the temperature decreases, the resistance of the sensor increases and vice versa (see technical data).
To replace the engine air temperature (IAT) sensor on pre-2001 models, proceed as follows:
- turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery;

- disconnect the electrical connector from the IAT sensor (figure 7.10);
- remove the IAT sensor from the air filter housing.
