Numbering of the terminals of the external lighting switch and switch positions





Examination



1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Disable the airbag (see subsection 11.44).

3. Remove the steering wheel.

4. Remove the steering column cover.

5. Disconnect the connector from the turn signal/headlight switch.

6. Check for continuity between the switch terminals.

7. In the OFF position of the switch there should be no current between the terminals of the circuit.

8. In the LOCK position, there should be no circuit between the terminals.

9. In the TAIL switch position (rear lights) the chain should be between terminals 14 and 16.

10. With the HEAD switch in the position, continuity should be between terminals 13, 14 and 16.

11. When the low beam headlights are turned on (low beam position) the chain should be between terminals 16 and 17.

12. When the high beam headlights are turned on (high beam position) the chain should be between terminals 7 and 16.

13. In the FLASH switch position (headlight flashing mode) the chain should be between terminals 7, 8 and 16.



Replacement



1. Remove the switch from the housing.

2. Installation is performed in the reverse order. Before installing the steering wheel, check the centering of the airbag wire coil (see subsection 9.14).
