Adjusting the parking brake [Toyota RAV4 XA10]

If the parking brake lever clicks 5 to 8 times when fully tightened, the adjustment is correct. If the travel is less than 5 clicks, the brake pads will be partially pressed against the brake disc. If the stroke is more than 8 clicks, the parking brake is not effective enough.

To access the parking brake adjustment nuts, remove the center console.

Release the parking brake lever.



Loosen the locknut (top nut), while doing this, hold the adjusting nut with the second key (lower nut) from turning (figure 11.42). Turn the adjusting nut until the required parking brake lever travel is achieved and tighten the lock nut.

Install the center console.
