Pedal installation height

Measure the installation height of the brake pedal, which must be within the limits given in the technical data and in fig. 11.44. If necessary, adjust the brake pedal height as follows.
Remove the lower casing of a steering column.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
Loosen the brake light switch locknut and remove it.
Loosen pusher locknut.
Adjust the height of the brake pedal by turning the pusher to one side or the other.
Tighten the pusher locknut.
Install the brake light switch and tighten it until it touches the switch housing with the brake pedal travel limiter.
Loosen the brake light switch one turn.

Measure the distance between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel stop, which should be between 0.5–2.4 mm (pic. 11.45).
Tighten the brake light switch locknut.
Connect the electrical connector to the brake light switch.
Check that the brake lights come on when you press the brake pedal and go out when you release it.
Check the free play of the brake pedal.
Free travel of the brake pedal
Press the brake pedal several times with the engine off to create the same pressure in the cavities of the vacuum booster, close to atmospheric pressure.
Pic. 11.46. Changing the free travel of the brake pedal: X = 1–6 mm
Depress the brake pedal until you feel resistance and measure the distance the brake pedal has traveled (pic. 11.46). The free travel of the brake pedal must be between 1 and 6 mm.
Pic. 11.45. Measuring the gap between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel stop: A = 0.5–2.4 mm
If the free play of the brake pedal differs from the required value, check the distance A (see fig. 11.45) between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel stop.
Brake pedal reserve
Start the engine and depress the brake pedal several times, then press the pedal hard enough and, while holding in this position, measure the distance from the floor to the brake pedal, which should be within the limits given in the technical data.
If the brake pedal travel is not within specification, check the rear brake pad adjustment and the brake booster pushrod clearance.
