Pedal installation height
Figure 11.44. Brake pedal installation height: 1 – pusher; 2 – brake light switch; X – brake pedal installation height
Measure the brake pedal installation height, which should be within the limits given in the technical data and in the figure 11.44. If necessary, adjust the brake pedal height as follows.
Remove the lower steering column cover.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
Loosen the brake light switch lock nut and remove it.
Loosen the pushrod lock nut.
Adjust the brake pedal height by rotating the push rod in one direction or the other.
Tighten the pushrod locknut.
Install the brake light switch and turn it until the switch housing touches the brake pedal travel limiter.
Turn the brake light switch out one turn.

Figure 11.45. Measuring the gap between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel limiter: A = 0.5–2.4 mm
Measure the distance between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel limiter, which should be within 0.5–2.4 mm (figure 11.45).
Tighten the brake light switch lock nut.
Connect the electrical connector to the brake light switch.
Check that the brake lights come on when you press the brake pedal and go out when you release it.
Check the brake pedal free play.
Brake pedal free play
Press the brake pedal several times with the engine off to create a uniform pressure in the vacuum booster cavities, close to atmospheric pressure.
Figure 11.46. Changing the brake pedal free travel: X = 1–6 mm
Press the brake pedal until you feel a noticeable resistance and measure the distance the brake pedal travels (figure 11.46). The free travel of the brake pedal should be within 1–6 mm.
Figure 11.45. Measuring the gap between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel limiter: A = 0.5–2.4 mm
If the brake pedal free play differs from the required value, check the distance A (see figure 11.45) between the threaded part of the switch housing and the brake pedal travel limiter.
Brake pedal travel
Start the engine and press the brake pedal several times, then press the pedal fairly hard and, while holding it in this position, measure the distance from the floor to the brake pedal, which should be within the limits given in the technical data.
If the brake pedal travel is different from the required value, check the rear brake pad adjustment and the brake booster tappet clearance.
