Replacing the rear cable



The rear parking brake cable connects the rear wheel brake mechanisms to the compensator.

Relieve the pressure in the fuel system and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Block the front wheels with chocks.

Loosen the rear wheel mounting nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on stands.

Release the parking brake lever.

Remove the brake drum.

Remove the brake pads and disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever attached to the rear brake pad.

Remove the two parking brake cable housing mounting bolts and pull the cable out of the rear brake housing (figure 11.43).

Remove the fuel tank and heat shields located above the exhaust system.

Remove the bolts securing the parking brake cable clamps to the underbody of the vehicle.

Disconnect the front portion of the parking brake cable from the compensator and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

Lubricate the front part of the parking brake cable and connect it to the compensator.

Adjust the parking brake cable.

Replacing the front cable



The front parking brake cable connects the parking brake lever to the compensator.

Remove the center console.

Release the parking brake lever.

Loosen the locknut (top nut), while doing this, hold the adjusting nut with the second key (lower nut) from turning, then unscrew the lock nut and adjusting nut (see Figure 11.42).

Block the front wheels with chocks.

Loosen the rear wheel mounting nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on stands.

To access the parking brake compensator, remove the heat shields located above the exhaust system.

Turn the parking brake cable 90° and disconnect it from the compensator.

Press out the sealing ring in the trough-shaped element of the car's underbody and pull the cable through the opened hole.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.



Lubricate the rear of the parking brake cable and connect it to the compensator.

Before installing the sealing ring, apply a layer of sealant to its edges to prevent water from penetrating into the vehicle's interior.

Adjust the parking brake cable.
