Replacement



The cable connecting the equalizer bar to the rear wheel parking brakes



1. Raise the rear of the vehicle.

2. Release the parking brake and remove the drum (disc).

3. On vehicles with rear drum brakes, remove the brake shoes and disconnect the cable from the brake shoe actuator lever. On vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, remove the parking brake shoes and disconnect the brake shoe actuator lever.





4. Loosen the parking brake cable end bolts on the brake shield.



5. Loosen the cable sheath bracket mounting bolt. The cable sheath bracket is located at the front of the rear suspension rod (on some vehicles the bracket location may differ slightly).

6. Remove the middle section of the exhaust pipe (or lower it), to provide access to the cables.



7. Loosen the bolt securing the front cable end clamp and remove the end from the clamp.





8. Rotate the cable so that the cable end disengages from the equalizer bar and unhook the cable.

9. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

10. Adjust the cable.

The cable connecting the intermediate lever to the equalizing bar



1. Remove the center section.

2. Release the brake lever and unscrew the lock nut and adjusting nut. Disconnect the cable from the lever.

3. While working under the vehicle, feed the cable back, turn it 90° and pull the cable out through the hole in the floor.

4. Installation is performed in the reverse order. Lubricate the rubbing parts of the cable tip in the equalizer bar. Adjust the cable.

The cable connecting the intermediate lever to the pedal (only for avalon models)



1. Remove the front seat.

2. On vehicles with a bench seat, remove the reinforcement section; on vehicles with separate seats, remove the center section.

3. Disconnect the cable from the intermediate lever.

4. Remove the knee safety buffer (see subsection 11.23.).

5. Disconnect the parking brake switch.

6. Remove the cotter pin and take out the pedal axle, disconnect the cable from the pedal.

7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
