Removing
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Remove the lever.
3. On rear-wheel drive vehicles, remove the N2 engine shield. On 4WD vehicles, remove both shields.
4. Disconnect the gimbal (e) shaft (s).
5. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
6. Disconnect the speedometer cable or connector (photo on the left). Disconnect the reverse switch connector (photo on the right).
7. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wires, to do this, unscrew the harness bracket bolt, disconnect the remaining wires on the gearbox housing. Some of the harnesses are connected by connectors fixed in the upper part of the transmission.
8. These harnesses must be disconnected and taken aside.
9. On 4WD vehicles, disconnect the connectors from the transfer case.
10. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder.
11. Loosen the clutch housing bolts (shown by arrows). Car clutch housing "Toyota 4 Runner/ Hilux/ Surf" with gearbox W59 fastened with 4 bolts and 2 nuts (2WD and 4WD), at checkpoint R150 (F) – 4 bolts.
12. Support the gearbox with a trolley - a jack.
13. Place a jack under the engine sump.
14. Remove the rear cross member by removing the 4 through bolts and 4 nuts.
15. Remove the gearbox housing supports.
16. Remove the starter.
17. Remove 6 bolts on R150 gearbox (F) (drawing on the left) or 3 bolts on the W59 gearbox, securing the gearbox to the engine (drawing on the right, except for the starter bolts (1)).
18. Make sure that all necessary wires are disconnected and move the gearbox back so that the gearbox input shaft comes out of the clutch or clutch housing. On 2WD vehicles, you will need to turn the gearbox 90°clockwise, move it back again, lower the gearbox and remove it from under the car. On 4WD vehicles, move the gearbox with transfer case down and back.
19. On 4WD vehicles, remove the support and transfer case from the gearbox.
20. Check clutch parts.
Installation
1. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
2. If the gearbox shaft does not fit into the splines, align the gearbox and rotate the input shaft.
3. Tighten the gearbox mounting bolts to the specified torque.
4. After connecting the wires, fill the gearbox with oil and lower the car.
5. Install the lever and covers.
6. Check the driving characteristics of the car.
