Replacement
1. A common cause of leaks in the gearbox crankcase is wear on the rear oil seal in the crankcase shank and bushing (if provided), as well as the oil seal and sealing ring of the speedometer gearbox. These parts can be replaced without removing the gearbox.
2. Raise the vehicle. Oil seal leakage is noticeable by oily deposits on the front of the driveshaft, as well as on the end face of the gearbox shank.
3. Remove cardan shaft (see subsection 7.3.2).
4. Carefully dislodge the deflector with light blows from a soft-faced hammer.
5. Pry and carefully remove the seal.
6. If the oil seal cannot be removed, then it should be removed using a special tool (available for sale).
7. Press in a new oil seal with a mandrel, making sure that the oil seal enters without distortion.
8. Press on the deflector.
9. Lubricate the yoke and shaft splines and install the propeller shaft without damaging the lips of the new oil seal.
