Certain parts of the bodywork that are most vulnerable in a crash are bolted on and can be easily repaired or replaced. These removable items include moldings, bumpers, front fenders, hood, trunk lid, doors and all windows.
Within the purview of the average amateur mechanic are only the most common maintenance and repair procedures for body panels, which are included in this chapter.
Attention! On some models, the front seat belts are equipped with pretensioners, which are pyrotechnic devices designed to retract the seat belts upon impact. On models equipped with pretensioners, do not remove the front seat belt retractors or disconnect the electrical connectors of these devices. In the event of a malfunction in the pretensioners, the SRS warning lamp lights up on the instrument panel (airbag systems). If you suspect a problem with the seat belt pretensioners, have your vehicle diagnosed by your dealer's service department.
