Warning! The car models covered in this manual may be equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag units, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally activated (see Onboard electrical equipment). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
The bodies of the models considered in this Manual have a frame structure. The supporting frame consists of two longitudinal side beams made in the form of steel pipes of rectangular section and interconnected by crossbars. The transverse beams are welded to the longitudinal ones, or attached to them with rivets or bolts. The body assembly is fixed to the frame by means of supports equipped with rubber cushions and can be completely dismantled.
Some of the body parts most vulnerable in the event of an accident are bolted and can be easily replaced on an individual basis. These removable components include bumpers, door panels, hood, trunk lid and all windows.
Only the most common procedures for the repair and maintenance of body components fall within the qualifications of the average amateur mechanic.
