Four-cylinder engines
Examination
1. Disconnect connector (the sensor is located on the bulkhead of the engine compartment) and check for 5V between pins 1 (–) and 3 (+) with the ignition on. If there is no voltage, then the PCM module should be returned for repair. The numbers indicate the outputs of the sensor connectors.
2. Connect the connector and check for voltage between pins 2 (+) and 1 (–), by connecting the voltmeter probes to the back of the terminals and creating a vacuum in the sensor with a manual vacuum pump through the fitting (disconnect the hose from the sensor).
With the ignition on, the voltage should be as follows:
- at a pressure of 100 mm Hg. 0.3-0.5V
- at a pressure of 200 mm Hg. 0.7-0.9V
- at a pressure of 300 mm Hg. 1.1-1.3V
- at a pressure of 400 mm Hg. 1.5-1.9V
- at a pressure of 500 mm Hg. 1.9-2.1 V.
Otherwise, replace the sensor.
Replacement
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Disconnect the connector, unscrew the bolt (indicated by an arrow) and remove the sensor.
