1. Electric window lift motors, mounted inside the doors, raise and lower the door windows. The system consists of separate switches for controlling the driver's and passenger's door windows, and separate switches for controlling the opening of the left and right rear windows (if the rear windows on the sides have such a drive), drive motors, drive mechanisms (window lifters) and the wiring connecting these elements.

Figure 22.1. Typical power window system.

2. The power windows can be controlled from the driver's main control panel or from remote switches located near the corresponding windows. Each glass has a reversible window lift motor. The position of the control switch determines the polarity and, accordingly, the direction of rotation of the motor.

3. The power circuit is protected by a fuse and a circuit breaker. Each motor also has a circuit breaker built into it that disconnects the stuck window's motor from the rest of the system.

4. The system operates only when the ignition is on. In addition, many models are equipped with a locking switch for the rear and, in some cases, passenger control circuits (right front) window lifts built into the main window lift switch. If any window lifter does not work, check that particular switch first.

5. Methods for checking control and power supply circuits - conventional; if you have any difficulties, please contact a specialized workshop.

6. If the windows do not work, first check the fuse and circuit breaker.

7. If only the rear window electric drives do not work, or they are only operated by the main switch, check the interlock switch in the off position - the circuit should be closed. Replace the faulty switch.

8. Check the integrity of the wiring from the fuse to the switch.

9. If only one window does not work from the main switch, try turning it on from a different switch.

Note: This does not apply to the driver's door window.

10. If the window lift works with one switch but not with the other, check the suspect switch.

11. If the switches are working properly, check the wiring for an open or short circuit from the switch to the window motor.

12. If the window lift does not operate from any switch, remove the trim panel of the corresponding door and check for voltage supply to the switch and to the motor with the switch on.

13. If voltage is present, disconnect the glass from the window regulator (see chapter 11). Move the glass up and down by hand, checking for jamming or distortion. Check the window lift mechanism as well. If the window lifter is not damaged and the glass moves smoothly, replace the drive motor (see chapter 11). If damage is found in the window regulator mechanism or it sticks, lubricate, repair or replace, if necessary, the faulty parts.

14. If there is no voltage reaching the motor, check the wiring from the switch to the motor (if you have any difficulties, check the wiring diagram). If there is a relay in the circuit, check the reliability of the connection to the relay ground and the supply of voltage to it from the switches. Check the voltage at the relay output with the switch on. Replace the faulty relay.

15. After the repair, check the functionality of the window lifts.
