Automatic transmission dipstick
Automatic transmission dipstick (indicated by an arrow) located at the rear of the engine compartment.
Marks for checking the level of transmission fluid
1. Normal level (for cold liquid)
2. Normal level (for hot liquid)
The level must be between the arrows.
Examination
1. Insufficient or excessive fluid level in the automatic transmission leads to failure of the unit. 2. The level should be checked after a normal ride of 16 km (in warm weather), so that the fluid warms up to operating temperature (not less than 60–70°С). After a long trip, or a trip with a heavy load, wait at least 30 minutes.
3. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the handbrake, start the engine and depress the brake pedal. Move the selector lever from position P through the entire range and again put it in position P.
4. Remove the dipstick from the nozzle (engine continues to idle), wipe the dipstick.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube.
6. Remove the dipstick and check the fluid level. The level must be in the range indicated by Hot (hot). On a cold transmission, the level should be in the Cold range (cold). If it is necessary to add liquid, then carefully pour the required amount of liquid of the appropriate brand through the nozzle.
7. Add liquid through the funnel in small portions (the amount of liquid between the Hot marks is approximately 0.57 liters.
8. If the liquid is black or has "burnt" smell, then the fluid must be replaced (see subsection 2.35).
