1. Before repairing any part of the fuel system, be sure to relieve fuel pressure to avoid fire and personal injury.
2. Unscrew the filler cap. This ensures the release of residual pressure in the tank.
3. Pressure can be relieved by disconnecting the connector from the fuel pump, or by de-energizing the pump relay.
4. After disconnecting, start the engine, wait for the engine to stop and turn off the ignition.
5. After performing these measures, there is no pressure in the fuel system.
6. Before starting work on the fuel system, disconnect the battery from the ground.
