Attention! When performing work on any part of the fuel system, observe fire safety regulations.


1. Before repairing any part of the fuel system, it is necessary to relieve the fuel pressure to avoid fire and injury to service personnel.

2. Unscrew the filler cap. This will release the residual pressure in the tank.



3. Disconnect the connector from the fuel pump (1). On later models, the connector is accessed through a hole in the rear wheel well. On 1991-94 models, remove the rear seat, carpet, and hatch. On 1988-90 models, remove the pump relay, crank the engine with the starter (if access to the connector under the tank is difficult).

4. Start the engine, wait until the engine stops and turn off the ignition.

5. After completing these measures, there is no pressure in the fuel system.

6. Before loosening a hose clamp or unscrewing a fuel line nipple, place a rag underneath to prevent spilled gasoline from getting on the engine.

7. Before starting work, disconnect the battery from the ground.
