1. Raise the car.
2. Inspect the cardan shafts. If there are dents, cracks or deformations, replace the shaft.
3. If you find signs of leakage near the transmission, transfer case or gearbox, replace the seals.
4. Check the noise coming from the joints by rotating the wheel. Check the play of the joints by trying to rotate the flange and shaft in different directions. Any noticeable play indicates severe wear of the joints.
5. Check the tightness of the hinge mounting bolts.
6. Check for grease leaks from under the sliding joints.
7. Check the condition of the axle shafts, CV joints and covers. Traces of leakage indicate the need to replace the seals.
