2. Inspect the cardan shafts. If there are dents, cracks or deformations, replace the shaft.
3. If traces of leakage are detected near the transfer case or gearbox, replace the seals.
4. Check for noise coming from the joints by rotating the wheel.

5. Check the play of the joints by trying to rotate the flange and shaft in different directions. Any noticeable play indicates severe wear of the joints.
6. Check for grease leaks from under the sliding spline joints.
7. Check the condition of the axle shaft seals; leaks from the seals are visible from the back of the brake shield.
