Checking the cardan shaft [Toyota Corona T190]

1. Check the runout of the cardan shaft. If the runout is greater than the maximum, replace the cardan shaft. The maximum runout is 0.8 mm.



2. Check the front propeller shaft runout.
  • a) Check the runout of the rear flange of the cardan shaft in the horizontal direction. Maximum runout is 0.1 mm.
  • b) Check the runout of the rear flange of the cardan shaft in the vertical direction. Maximum runout is 0.1 mm.



3. Check the axial clearance of the crosspiece bearings by turning the fork by hand and holding the cardan shaft



4. Check that the coupling joint moves smoothly, without binding or excessive play. Check the coupling joint for damage and grease leaks. If the coupling joint is faulty or damaged, replace the rear propeller shaft.
