Transfer case lever — removal and installation [Toyota 4Runner N120]

1. On vehicles without a front axle selector, move the gearshift lever to position 4 High. On vehicles equipped with a selector, move the gearshift lever to position High and set the front axle selector (2WD-4WD) to position Off.

2. Loosen the handle mounting screw and remove the handle.

3. On vehicles with manual transmission, remove the transfer case lever handle.

4. Remove the upper front panel of the middle section (see subsection 10.23).

5. Disconnect the connector from the front axle selector switch (if a selector is provided).


6. On cars with manual transmission, unscrew 4 screws, remove the lever cover (photo on the left) and the frame. Then remove the retaining ring (photo on the right).



7. Remove the transfer case lever.



8. On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect the rod from the lever, disconnect the connector, unscrew the 8 bolts and remove the control mechanism together with the lever. Remove the retaining ring and remove the lever.

9. Install the lever in reverse order.
