2. Remove the fill plug. Make sure the oil level in the gearbox housing is under the cut of the filler plug. Add oil to the crankcase if necessary.
3. To drain the oil, unscrew the filler and drain plug. The gearbox must be warm (be careful not to burn yourself with hot oil). After draining the oil, replace and tighten the drain plug.
Note: see the assembly drawing in chapter "Manual Transmission". The gearbox type is stamped on an aluminum plate affixed to the bulkhead of the engine compartment in line "TRANS/AXLE".

4. After installing the fill plug, check the gearbox and transfer case for oil leaks or damage.
