Camshaft oil seal on the timing belt side

1. Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprocket as described in paragraph 7.

2. After marking the depth of the oil seal, remove it by carefully prying it off with a small screwdriver (see Figure 9.2).

Figure 9.2, Pry it up with a screwdriver and pull it out of the mounting hole.

Be careful not to scratch the camshaft or the oil seal seat to avoid causing a leak.

Note: The process of removing the old oil seal will be significantly easier if you cut its sealing edge with a sharp knife.

3. Clean the oil seal seat and lubricate the oil seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease.

4. Using a suitable mandrel (a head or a piece of pipe with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the gland will do) and a hammer, carefully press the seal to the same depth. Make sure that the oil seal is seated correctly, without any distortions. After installing the oil seal, check that the spring is in place.

5. Install the camshaft sprocket and timing belt (see paragraph 7).

6. Start the engine and check for leaks.
