Air Filter Element — Checking and Replacing [Toyota 4Runner N120]

1. The condition of the filter should be checked between replacements.

2. On 3.4L V6 engines, the filter is mounted on the right side of the engine compartment.

3. On 3.0L V6 engines, the filter is mounted on the left side of the engine compartment.



4. Disconnect the latches. Disconnect any hoses from the air filter housing that may interfere with the removal of the filter. Remove the cover, thereby providing access to the element being replaced (the arrows indicate the latches on the filter housing).



5. Remove the filter element.

6. Inspect the outer surface of the element, blow it first from the inside and then from the outside with compressed air, having first made sure that the element is intact and free of oil. If blowing does not produce results, replace the filter element.

7. The filter element is installed in the reverse order.
