Application. Due to the complexity of the automatic transmission device, it is difficult for a motorist to correctly determine the causes of malfunctions and perform maintenance. If any problems occur other than those listed below, the vehicle should be taken to a dealership workshop or automatic transmission specialist for repair.
30. Fluid leak
1. Automatic transmission fluid is dark red in color. Leaks of this fluid should not be confused with oil leaks from the engine, which can be easily blown away by the air stream into the gearbox.
2. To locate the leak, first remove any dirt deposits from the gearbox housing with an oil remover and/or steam cleaning. Drive some distance at low speed to prevent the airflow from blowing the fluid away from the leak. After lifting the car and placing it on its supports, look at where the leak is. General leak areas.
- A) pallet (chapter 1 and 7),
- b) dipstick tube (chapter 1 and 7),
- V) oil pipelines of the gearbox in the block with the drive axle (chapter 7),
- G) speed sensor (chapter 7),
- d) differential drain plug (chapter 1 and 7).
31. Transmission fluid is brown or has a burnt smell
1. Transmission fluid overheating (Chapter 1).
32. General difficulty shifting gears
1. Chapter 7 deals with checking and adjusting the gearshift drive on an automatic transmission. The following are the most common malfunctions that can occur due to poor adjustment of the mechanism:
- A) engine starts in selector positions other than «R» and «N»,
- b) indicator readings do not correspond to the actual gear engaged,
- V) the vehicle moves when the selector lever is in position «R».
2. For a description of the shift lever adjustment procedure, refer to chapter 7.
33. When the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor, there is no downshifting
1. These gearboxes are electronically controlled. Check for DTCs stored in PCM memory (see chapter 7).
34. The engine starts in positions other than «R» and «N»
1. Incorrect operation of the transmission range sensor (TR) (chapter 7).
35. Frictional slippage, abrupt shifting, noise in the gearbox or no transmission of torque in forward and reverse gears
1. There are many possible causes for the above faults, but the only possible cause that a car mechanic should consider is the transmission fluid level. Before taking the vehicle to a workshop, check the fluid level and condition as described in chapter 1. Correct fluid level or replace fluid and filter if necessary. If the problem persists, contact a professional to diagnose the cause of the failure.
