Removing
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the wire «masses» from the battery.
Remove the hood.
Remove the air filter housing.
Remove the expansion tank.
On pre-2001 models, loosen the locknut and remove the cable sheath from the throttle assembly bracket. Disconnect the cable from the throttle sector.
Remove the starter.
Label and disconnect all electrical connectors from the transmission.
Loosen the wire fixing bolt «masses».
Turn out bolts of fastening of a transmission to the engine accessible from above.
Install a cross member over the engine compartment and fasten the gearbox to the cross member with a chain by the eye.
Turn out a bolt of fastening of the left support of a transmission.
Loosen the nuts securing the drive shafts to the front wheel hubs.
Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Remove the front wheels.
Remove the engine compartment splash guard.
Loosen the selector cable retaining nut and disconnect it from the selector lever on the front of the transmission.
Remove the clip and remove the cable sheath from the bracket on the gearbox.
Drain the transmission fluid from the transmission.
Remove drive shafts.
Remove the exhaust pipe.
Mark and disconnect all electric sockets accessible from below from a transmission.
Disconnect the transmission hoses going to the oil cooler. Close the ends of the hoses with plastic plugs.
Turn out a bolt of fastening of the steering mechanism to the lower cross beam. Using soft wire, secure the steering gear to a beam installed across the engine compartment.
On models from 2001, remove the plug covering the torque converter access hole, then mark the position of the torque converter and drive plate with paint.
On 1996 and 1997 models, disconnect the selector cable from the lower cross member.
On models from 2001, disconnect the anti-roll bar earrings from the stabilizer bar.
Remove the lower transverse and longitudinal beams.

On models up to 2001, unscrew the bolts and remove the stiffening plate (pic. 9.29).
On pre-2001 models, mark the position of the torque converter and drive plate with paint.
Turn out bolts of fastening of the hydrotransformer. To access each subsequent bolt, turn the engine crankshaft in the direction of its working rotation by the central bolt of the crankshaft pulley.
Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
Turn out the remaining bolts securing the gearbox to the engine, while marking the location of the bolts, as they have different lengths.
Pull the gearbox away from the engine and check that the torque converter is separated from the drive plate. Clamp the torque converter, lower and remove the gearbox.
Installation
Install in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Align the marks on the torque converter and drive plate that were made before removal.
Pour transmission fluid into the gearbox.
Adjust selector cable and throttle cable (on models up to 2001).
