Turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Figure 5.22. Loosening the lock nut securing the cable sheath to the throttle assembly
Loosen the lock nut securing the cable housing to the throttle assembly (figure 5.22).
Turn the throttle lever and use a needle or pliers to remove the accelerator cable from the groove in the lever.
Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
Remove the accelerator cable from the bulkhead into the engine compartment.
Install the accelerator cable in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the sealing ring is installed in the engine compartment bulkhead before installing the accelerator cable.
To adjust the accelerator cable, do the following:
- loosen the adjusting nut 3 mm from the cable bracket;
- remove any slack in the cable;
- tighten the lock nut and check the throttle cable deflection between the throttle lever and the cable housing, which should be 9–12 mm. If the deflection is outside the specified limits, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut to set the desired deflection;
- after adjusting the accelerator cable, the assistant should press and release the accelerator pedal, while the throttle lever should turn from stop to stop. Check that the accelerator cable moves smoothly and without sticking.
