To remove the ignition distributor on models from 1996 to 1998, proceed as follows:

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition distributor.

Make sure that there is a mark "1" near the high-voltage wire connection terminal of the first cylinder spark plug on the distributor cap, otherwise apply a mark.

Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine crankshaft to a position in which the rotor is directed toward terminal "1" of the high-voltage wire of the spark plug of the first cylinder, while the piston of the first cylinder is at TDC in the compression stroke.

Place a mark on the distributor housing and cylinder head cover to reinstall the distributor in its original position (figure 6.5).

Unscrew the bolt and remove the ignition distributor.

Caution! Do not turn the engine crankshaft with the ignition distributor removed, as the position of the timing marks will be disturbed.

Install the ignition distributor on models from 1996 to 1998 as follows:

If the crankshaft was turned with the ignition distributor removed, set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC in the compression stroke.

Install the ignition distributor with a new sealing ring, aligning the previously applied marks. When installing, the protrusion on the distributor shaft must fit into the groove in the end of the camshaft (figure 6.6).

Secure the ignition distributor with a bolt.

Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
