Turn off the ignition and disconnect the wire «masses» from the battery.
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition distributor.
Make sure that near the terminal for connecting the high-voltage wire of the spark plug of the first cylinder on the cover of the ignition distributor there is a mark «1», otherwise mark.
Remove the ignition distributor cap and turn the engine crankshaft to the position where the rotor is directed towards the terminal «1» the high-voltage wire of the spark plug of the first cylinder, while the piston of the first cylinder will be at TDC on the compression stroke.
Pic. 6.5. Location of the alignment mark on the ignition distributor and cylinder head cover
Put a mark on the ignition distributor housing and cylinder head cover to reinstall the ignition distributor in its original position (pic. 6.5).
Turn out a bolt and remove the distributor of ignition.
Attention! Do not turn the engine crankshaft with the ignition distributor removed, as the position of the alignment marks will be violated.
Install the ignition distributor on models from 1996 to 1998 as follows:
If the crankshaft was turned with the ignition distributor removed, set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC on the compression stroke.
Pic. 6.6. When installing the ignition distributor, the protrusion on the ignition distributor shaft must enter the groove in the end of the camshaft
Install the ignition distributor with a new O-ring, aligning the pre-applied marks. When installing, the protrusion on the ignition distributor shaft must enter the groove in the end of the camshaft (pic. 6.6).
Fasten the ignition distributor with the bolt.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
