1. If the engine is to be started from another car's battery, the car bodies must not touch. Disconnect all extraneous consumers (lighting devices and additional electrical equipment).

2. If necessary, remove the plugs from the sections of the additional and discharged batteries.

3. Cover the holes with rags (this measure is necessary to reduce the risk of explosion and injury to personnel).

4. Start the car engine with the additional battery, after a few minutes bring the speed up to 2000 rpm.

5. Connect the jumper cables in the order shown in the illustration: positive terminal of the discharged battery to positive terminal of the booster battery, negative terminal of the booster battery to the engine or to ground. First connect the cable to the positive terminal of the discharged battery, then to the positive terminal of the battery. Then connect the cable to the negative terminal of the booster battery and to an unpainted, firmly attached part of the ground, away from the discharged battery (for example, for the engine mounting hook). Do not place jumper cables near moving parts.

6. (This clause only applies to diesel engines). Charge the discharged battery from the additional battery by maintaining the engine speed of the vehicle with the additional battery at 2000 rpm for 5 minutes.

7. Start your engine in the normal manner. Once started, bring the engine speed up to 2000 rpm.

8. Carefully disconnect the cables in reverse order: negative first, then positive.

9. Dispose of any rags that covered the batteries that may be contaminated with electrolyte.

10. Tighten the section plugs (if they turned away).

11. If the obvious cause of the battery discharge is unknown (for example, if you don't remember leaving the car with the headlights on for a long time), then check the battery.
