If the booster battery is installed on another vehicle, make sure the vehicles are not touching. Turn off all unnecessary lights and accessories.
If necessary, remove all vent plugs from booster and dead batteries. Lay a cloth over the open vents on the batteries. (This helps reduce the risk of explosion, injury and burns).
If the vehicle's engine with the booster battery is not running, start it and let it run for a few minutes. When starting with a booster battery, the engine should run at approximately 2000 rpm with the accelerator pedal lightly depressed.
Connect cables in order a, b, c, d:
- a. Connect clamp positive (red) connecting cable to positive (+) terminal on a discharged battery.
- b. Connect the clamp on the other end of the positive (red) connecting cable to positive (+) terminal on the booster battery.
- c. Connect negative clamp (black) connecting cable to the negative (-) terminal on the booster battery.
- d. Connect the clamp on the other end of the negative (black) cable to a hard, immovable, unpainted, metal point on a vehicle with a dead battery.
Recommended connection points are shown in the following figures.
Connection point for 5S-FE engine
Connection point for 1MZ-FE engine
Do not connect the cable to or near any part that moves when the engine is cranked. When making connections, to avoid serious injury, do not lean over the battery or allow the connection cables or clamps to touch anything other than the correct battery terminals and ground.
Start the engine in the normal way. After starting, it should run for several minutes at a speed of approximately 2000 rpm with the accelerator pedal lightly depressed.
Carefully disconnect the cables in exactly the reverse order: the negative cable and then the positive cable.
Carefully dispose of fabrics covering batteries - they may contain sulfuric acid.
If the vent plugs have been removed, reinstall them all.
If the cause of the battery discharge is not identified (e.g. lights are on), you need to check it.
