Warning! The gas in gas-discharge lamps is under pressure. Therefore, if the lamp hits or scratches the glass surface, it may break. Use eye protection when handling lamps. If possible, hold the lamp only by the base. Do not touch the surface of the lamp with your fingers without first putting on gloves, because the fat present on the skin can cause the lamp to overheat and fail prematurely. If you touch the surface of the lamp without putting on gloves, wipe it with alcohol.
Note: The bulbs located on the inner edge of the headlights are the high beam bulbs. The outer bulbs are the low beam bulbs (these lamps also light when the high beam headlights are turned on).
1. If you are replacing a low beam bulb on a Lexus model, disconnect the headlight wiring connector on the short wire that goes to the bulb socket, then remove the rubber cover from the back of the headlight housing.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector on the lamp socket (Fig. 15.2).
