1. The air filter is located inside the housing on the left side of the engine compartment. To remove the air filter, release the clamps securing the two sections of the housing to the filter (Fig. 15.1).

2. Remove the cover and take out the filter element (Fig. 15.2).

3. Inspect the outer surface of the filter element. If it is dirty, replace it. If it is only moderately dusty, it can be reused, but blow it from the back towards the front surface with compressed air.

Caution: Always wear eye protection when working with compressed air.


Since the filter element is made of pleated paper, it should not be washed or oiled. If it cannot be cleaned satisfactorily with compressed air, discard it and replace it with a new one.



Caution: Never operate your vehicle with the air filter removed. This can result in increased engine wear and a backfire could cause an underhood fire.


4. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that the protrusions on the cover hinge engage correctly with the lower part of the housing.
