Wheels and tires — general information [Toyota Highlander XU20]

1. The wheels of all vehicles described in this Manual are equipped with radial metric tires with fiberglass or steel cords (Fig. 24.1). Installing tires of a different size may affect the vehicle's handling and performance. Never mix tires of different designs on the same axle, such as radial and bias-ply tires, as this may seriously affect the vehicle's handling. It is recommended that tires be replaced on both wheels of the same axle at the same time. If only one wheel is being replaced, ensure that the tire on the replacement wheel matches the size of the tire on the other side of the axle.



2. Since tire pressure greatly affects vehicle handling and tire wear, you should check your tire pressure at least once a month. Also, check the pressure before each long trip (see chapter 1).

3. Wheel disks are subject to replacement in case of deformation, violation of the tightness of the tubeless tires on them, disassembly until the bolt holes are oval, severe corrosion damage, violation of vertical symmetry, as well as in case of constant spontaneous loosening of the wheel nuts. It is not recommended to repair damaged disks using welding or riveting.

4. Balancing tires and wheels is important in terms of overall controllability, braking efficiency, and vehicle performance. Unbalanced wheels can negatively affect vehicle controllability, performance, and tire life. After each tire is installed on a wheel, the wheel and tire assembly should be balanced on a special stand.
