Tire designations
Attention! If between data 14 and 89 there is the designation M + S, we are talking about tires with a winter profile.
Explanation of designation 195/70 HR 14 89 N
195 | tire width in mm |
70 | profile height to width ratio in % (the normal ratio of height to width is 82%) |
H | literal symbol for permissible maximum speed |
R | radial tires |
14 | rim diameter in inches |
89 | load rating |
ABOUT | 160 km/h |
S | 180 km/h |
T | 190 km/h |
H | 210 km/h |
V | 240 km/h |
ZR | over 240 km/h |
Wheel replacement
When changing wheels, it is impractical to change the direction of rotation of the tire, since their repeated running in causes increased wear. If the front tires are noticeably worn, it is recommended to replace them with the rear tires. When changing tyres, always fit the less worn tires in front.
When changing wheels, take care not to damage the paintwork of light alloy rims.
Tighten the wheel bolts crosswise in several passes.
Tire break-in
New tires have a smooth outer surface and therefore the tires must be run in. The initial break-in wear makes the tire rougher.
For the first 200 km of the car, you should drive very carefully, especially on wet surfaces.
Tire storage
Tires should be stored in a cool, dark, dry and ventilated area.
Before removing the wheels, increase the tire pressure by 0.3–0.5 bar.
Wheel balancing
Wheel balancing is done to compensate for uneven weight distribution. When driving, the imbalance manifests itself in the form of vibration, which is transmitted to the steering wheel. Steering wheel vibration due to wheel imbalance occurs in a certain speed range and disappears when the speed decreases or increases. Wheel imbalances can cause damage to joints, steering and shock absorbers. Be sure to balance the wheels after 20,000 km of vehicle run or after any tire repair.
Anti-skid chains
The use of anti-skid chains is only permitted on the drive wheels. The protrusion of the chain above the surface and from the inside of the wheel is allowed no more than 15 mm. The maximum speed with chains is 50 km/h. On roads without ice, snow or mud, the chains must be removed.
Tire pressure check
Check pressure only when tires are cold.
The frequency of checks is once a month or when servicing the car.
It is advisable to check the pressure before long trips, as this places the maximum temperature load on the tires. When driving long distances at high speeds with reduced tire pressure, more energy is expended to deform the tire, causing it to overheat and may cause separation of the profile layer or even tire blowout. Also, lower pressure increases fuel consumption.
Tire Profile Check
Attention! Tires can be used up to a profile depth of 1.6 mm, that is, the profile grooves must have a depth of at least 1.6 mm over the entire surface of the tire. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to change tires at a profile depth of 3 mm.
Attention! M+S tires have sufficient grip on snow with a profile depth of at least 4 mm.
Attention! Examine the tire for cuts and determine their depth. If cuts reach the cord, the steel cord will corrode from penetrating moisture.
Intensive tire wear is promoted by a sporty driving style, intense acceleration and hard braking.
