Attention! If the vehicle is equipped with electronically controlled air suspension, turn off the suspension height control switch before raising the vehicle.
Removing
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
2. Using a large syringe or a rubber bulb, pump out as much fluid as possible from the power steering reservoir. Place a drain pan under the vehicle to collect any fluid that will run out when the hoses are disconnected.
3. Release nuts of fastening of the right forward wheel. Raise the vehicle and place secure supports under it. Remove the wheel.
4. Remove the right front fender apron seal and, if necessary, the locker (see chapter 11).
5. Remove the drive belt (see chapter 1).
6. Disconnect the supply hose from the pump (pic. 21.6). Disconnect the power steering pressure switch electrical connector.
Pic. 21.6. Power steering pump installation (V6 engine shown, similar for four-cylinder engine)
1 — Electric socket of the pressure switch of the amplifier of a steering
2 - Power steering pressure switch
3 — Bolt of union connection
4 - Discharge line
5 - Fitting of the discharge port
6 - Feeding hose
7 - Bolts (rear view - can be accessed through the hole in the pulley and on top of the pump)
7. Unscrew the union bolt between the discharge pipe and the pump and separate the pipe from the pump (pic. 21.6). Use two wrenches, one to hold the fitting on the discharge port and one to loosen the barb bolt. Remove the sealing washers from each side of the fitting; they must be replaced when the pump is installed.
8. Turn out bolts and then remove the pump (pic. 21.6).
Note. The top bolt does not completely remove. Release it just enough to disconnect the pump from the engine. The bolt will come off with the pump.
Installation
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the pressure pipe fitting bolt and the remaining bolts to the prescribed torque specified in Specifications. Adjust drive belt tension (see chapter 1).
10. Add working fluid to the tank to the norm (see chapter 1) and bleed the system (see paragraph 22).
